Big win for Glow at the Big Chip Digital Awards
06 July 2015
Glow New Media has been recognised in the Big Chip Awards 2015, winning in the Best Application of Mobile category for the Merseyrail official passenger app. The app was also shortlisted this year for the Best User Experience award.
Glow won against very strong competition, from apps including Harvey Nichols and One Direction.
This is Glow’s third inclusion in the Big Chip list, previously having been shortlisted for best user experience for Liverpool Sound City, best e-business project with ebeepbeep and gathered other accolades such as Web User Magazine’s Best Website Award.
Merseyrail is the Train Operator for Merseyside, running almost 800 trains per day and carrying over 100,000 passengers on an average week day.
The Merseyrail app offers up-to-the-minute information on how services are running, live departure times, as well as customised travel alerts and details on getting to stations. Boasting more personalised features than most similar platforms available, it is designed to enhance the passenger experience and is customer-friendly, intuitive and visually appealing.
The app can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for android devices. 26,000 people have already downloaded it and there are around 100 new users per day.
Kaj Mook, Merseyrail customer services director, commented: ‘We’re thrilled that the Merseyrail app is part of Glow’s award success, and this is testament to its popularity among our passengers. We’re constantly looking for new ways of improving the customer experience and the app, which is especially useful during times of disruption, is another of our initiatives to give people quicker, better access to information about Merseyrail.’
Phil Blything, director at Glow New Media, said: ‘We’re delighted that the app has been recognised for best use of mobile. The team worked very hard indeed to make this idea a reality and it’s been a pleasure working with Merseyrail. Now, with better information, passengers spend less time on unnecessary waiting on platform and can make better travel decisions during service disruptions. Passengers love it, with over a quarter of the daily ridership having installed it in just three months. We have some exciting innovations planned and we’re looking forward to releasing them in the coming months.’
The awards ceremony took place at the Midland Hotel In Manchester, July 2nd.
