Did you know?

Moorgate was a postern in ( the Roman era) London Wall. It was turned into a gate in the 15th century, damaged in the Great Fire of London and subsequently demolished in 1762, though the name survives as a major street in the City of London. The street connects the City to the London Boroughs of Islington and Hackney, built around 1846 as a new approach to London Bridge.

  • The Moorfields were one of the last pieces of open land in the City of London

  • John Keats was born in the Swan & Hoop Pub a few yards from Moorgate Station

  • Moorfields was the site of launch for the first Hydrogen balloon flight in England
