John Winstanley

Technical Director

As Technical Director, John is responsible for leading our team of digital experts at Glow, ensuring that we deliver for our clients.

John leads the team, improving the practices, standards, systems and technologies we use.

With over 15 years experience in the digital sector, John brings some essential ingredients to Glow. He has a strong technical background working with complex databases, various programming languages and architectures. In particular he has a wealth of experience producing software and statistics for the education sector, with his statistics being submitted as evidence to Parliament and quoted in the BBC and Guardian.

Whilst gaining his experience in the digital sector John also completed an MBA at Warwick University. One of his highlights was visiting Seoul University in South Korea, where he met students from all over the world. It is rumoured that John can sing Happy Birthday in Korean.

John previously co-led a department of software developers, one example project saw John’s team successfully converting a flagship product from a desktop based system to an online ASP.NETproduct, which is now used by over 150 local authorities. This was a particularly complicated project involving over a million lines of code and over 2000 days of work.

John has jumped out of a plane over 20 times (twice gently nudged, once tripped) and he’s still alive.
