Drone Racing League takes off with Glow
18 August 2017
This week Glow launches website for Drone Crusaders – The World’s first dedicated Castle FPV Drone racing league
Drone Racing is a relatively new phenomenon which involves pilots using First Person View (FPV) headsets to fly special, stripped down drones capable of speeds over 100mph. Drone Crusaders is uniquely positioned as the worlds first ever Drone Racing league using purely castles and historical buildings as the track; the venue receives an income share from the activity.
The first event, which sold out in under 24 hours, takes place at Gwrych Castle, Abergele on 16th – 17th September 2017. Globally top ranked pilots are booked to compete in September where they will battle it out for prizes donated by well-known FPV brands
The event will see pilots and spectators camping at the venue, enjoying locally sourced food and drink. Saturday will feature a “Night Flight” where pilots will get the chance to fly the castle socially, testing their skills around this technical track
The castle, built between 1819 and 1825 and called the “Showpiece of Wales” has a remarkable history, ranging from WW2 safe haven for Jewish refugees, to a training venue for Boxing Champions and film set for Joanna Lumley and Edward Fox. More recent activities have included Ghost Hunts and Garden Parties.
Drone Crusaders, a joint venture between Business Consultancy firm Pengelly Young and two FPV specialists Ian McDonald and Jon Hall have ambitious plans for growth through franchising, monthly clubs and DC merchandising.
“The team really enjoyed working on this project and we’re looking forward to cheering on the pilots at the event! Its a really exciting application of drone and FPV Technology – I can’t wait to see how it evolves as a new sport” Said Phil Blything, MD of Glow.
“Glow have been exceptional with regards to our needs, ideas and concepts. At first it was very difficult for us to see a vision of what the site should look like or what we needed. Giving their team our ideas and leaving them to it was the best thing we did. They came back with unique concepts, website designs and fresh ideas which lead to the final design we now have. Very happy!” Said Mel Pengelly, Founder of Drone Crusaders and MD of Pengelly Young.
